MICHIGAN DRAFT HORSE BREEDERS ASSOCIATION
November 2009
DIRECTORIES: Enclosed is your copy of our new directory. Thanks to Jane Miller for all her work on the ads and getting the directories printed. Thank you to all the advertisers who made this directory possible. Directories were available at the MGLI. If you need more, please let me know and I send you all you need. Please distribute them at your club meetings, sales and any horse activities.
QUILT RAFFLE: Thanks to the hard work of several people, the quilt raffle made $1,394. Thanks go to Barb Siebarth, Rhonda Butters, Mary Ellen Beck and Linda Dingerson for all the time they spent at the MDHBA booth selling tickets. Wayne McCarry sold tickets in the stands both Friday and Saturday, helped by Char VanderHoning Saturday and me on Friday. Lori Luther also deserves thanks for setting up the MDHBA booth. Thanks to Doreen McCalla for chairing the committee and putting the quilt on display at the MGLI. The quilt was won by Theresa Doorn from Dowagiac, who happens to be member Stephanie Luke’s future mother-in-law who was at the show to watch Stephanie.
MICHIGAN HORSE COUNCIL STALLION EXPO: It is not too early to start thinking about the Stallion Expo. 2010 is scheduled to have a Belgian stallion represent MDHBA at our booth. If you have a Belgian stallion you would like to have on display, please contact a director.
DIRECTOR POSITIONS: There will be two Director at Large positions voted on at the Annual Meeting in March. These two director positions are currently held by Billy Crego and Howard McCalla. Billy has served two consecutive terms so he will not be eligible to run again. If you are interested in running for the board, please contact a director.
SCHOLARSHIP: The Michigan Draft Horse Breeders Association Scholarship Committee is working on the details of the scholarship program. Information and scholarship applications will be presented at the Annual Meeting March 6. It is the committee’s intent to present the scholarship at the State Show in July.br>
MICHIGAN FARM NEWS: Michigan Farm Bureau’s publication Michigan Farm News featured draft horses and the MGLI. There were pictures and a short article about the show and its economic impact.
PICNIC: We are looking for a volunteer(s) for the 2010 picnic. This is a great opportunity to show off your farm/horses. Another idea is to combine efforts with friends and hold it at a location such as a fairgrounds. Please contact a director if you are interested.
ANNUAL MEETING: Mark your calendars for the Annual Meeting March 6 in Charlotte. If you have any suggestions for the meeting, please contact a director.
Have a great fall,
Renee Dingman
