Michigan Draft Horse Breeders Association Youth Representative

Ashley Kimmitt
My name is Ashley Kimmitt. My parents are Rick and Diane Kimmitt. I am from Tipton Michigan. I am a freshman at Tecumseh High School. I am 15 years old. I have played violin for 6 years and I am a Honor Roll student. I am actively involved in FFA which is Future Farmers of America. I have been competing with my Green hand of Conducts Procedure Team. We recently competed at the FFA State Conference at Michigan State University, and received a bronze award. I am also in my 5th year of 4-H in Lenawee County with my Quarter Horse and one of my sister’s Percherons. I have held the offices of being President and Photographer for the Dodge City Wranglers 4-H Club. I am also a member on the Tecumseh High School Equestrian Team and will compete in the Fall. I was also on the Junior High Equestrian Team for 3 years. I first started showing when I was 2 years old. My sister Amber let me use her horse in Lead Line and I loved it! I have been showing ever since. I show my Quarter Horse all summer and at Fair as well as shows at MSU. My older sister Amber Hunt was the person who got me into showing her Percherons last year. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it! She taught me how to do every thing with them like grooming, showmanship, driving, and how to ride them. I showed in 4-H at the Lenawee County Fair and the State Show and other open shows for draft horses. At the Great Lakes show last fall I received a Reserve Junior Champion Showman award for end of the year points. I really enjoy the Draft Horses a lot and plan to learn as much more as I can about them, and I will continue to show them. One of my future goals is to go to Michigan State University after I graduate and become a Veterinarian and specialize in Equine.
